Our Drawing Fundamentals program is a four-course series designed for intermediate and advanced students to provide them with the essential skills and techniques needed to build a strong foundation in observational drawing. It’s the perfect course for older children or teenagers who want to pursue the arts in higher education and those who want to improve their artistic skills. Our program focuses on developing technical abilities and spatial awareness through a variety of drawing exercises and concepts. Students will learn how to observe and translate the world around them into accurate, expressive drawings.

The Drawing Fundamentals course consists of 4 units:
  1. Perspective (5 classes)
Perspective is key in creating depth, proportion, and a sense of space in artwork. Students will learn one-point and two-point perspective to be able to represent three-dimensional space on a flat surface.

  2. Sketching Basics/Still Life (5 classes)
Sketching Basics teaches students to hone their observational drawing skills which is crucial in accurately drawing what they see, not what they think they see. Students will learn concepts like positive and negative space, contour and construction lines, value and form.

  3. Portrait Drawing (8 classes)
Portraiture drawing is essential for mastering the fundamentals of anatomy, proportions, and the placement of facial features, which are crucial in creating portraits and character designs. Students will learn the Loomis Method of drawing the head, focusing on the placement and structure of facial features. They will use these skills to create realistic portraits and expressive cartoon characters.

  4. Figure Drawing (7 classes)
This figure drawing workshop focuses on learning the essential aspects of proportion, structure to create realistic drawings use their learned knowledge to create character designs. Using image references, participants will explore the intricacies of the human form, learning to accurately capture proportion and build a strong structural foundation for their drawings.

By completing these four courses students will develop a well-rounded mastery of drawing techniques, preparing them for more advanced studies or personal artistic projects.
