Find your art style through our Art Movements course with 6 FUN, thought- provoking lesson plans based on art history. Let’s explore how master artists have continuously been inspired by the changing world around them, creating art styles that we now call art movements. When imagining working alongside masters such as Picasso, Michelangelo and even Freida Kahlo, our LOLART learners can begin to discover what type of artist they want to become by expanding their artistic practice.
Our Art Movements course is designed to complement our other level based courses from beginner to advanced. Learners can enjoy Art Movements lessons whether they’re developing new skills or seeking to further apply their techniques and artistic hand.
Our instructors use the LOLART Method and interactive activities providing learners a playful approach to art history through the different styles of art movements. The engaging curriculum will be based on 6 key Art Movements, including:
Art that "Breaks" the Rules (Dada/Surrealism/Abstract Expressionism)
Art that "Makes" the Rules (Baroque, Neoclassicism)
Art that Redefines (Renaissance/Romanticism)
Art that Tells Stories (Cave art/Realism)
Art that Defies Expectations (Impressionism/Fauvism/Cubism)
Art for Everybody (Pop art/Street art)
Each lesson will be composed of multiple classes to provide an in-depth focus on the techniques and purpose of each art movement. Learners will discuss their understandings, and experiment with new techniques creating projects based on the newly learned art movements. The lessons are very well prepared and ready for enrollment.
The program is offered as a hybrid class - learners can participate in the class either in-person or via video call from the comfort of their own homes. Lessons are suitable for ages 7-12, and 13+

By focusing on art styles through Art Movements, learners reveal what pushes people to become great. Art movements are born because someone felt like there needed to be a change, and they had the creativity and confidence to create impact. Come to join us in making messy, fun miracles, LOL!
Lesson Overview
Lesson #1
During the “Art that Breaks Rules” Art Movements lesson, the learners will explore the limits of their silly imaginations alongside Dadaists, travel through the depths of their Surrealist dream-like worlds, and participate in action painting with Abstract Expressionists.
Lesson #2
During the “Art for Everybody” Art Movements lesson, the learners will have a sneak peak to the behind-the-scenes of Pop Art and Street Art. They will learn what inspires artists to turn their environments into public canvases.
Lesson #3
During the "Art that Redefines" Art Movements lesson, the learners will discover how the Renaissance shows Italy’s new life and what is important to them like family and beliefs, while the Romantics reveal it is important to show our mistakes, emotions and wishes, because that’s what makes us so awesome!
Lesson #4
During the “Art that Makes Rules” Art Movements lesson, the learners will study the exaggerated contrast of the Baroque style, and the Neoclassicist style of combining the old with the new to determine how art enforces ethics and social rules, like chewing with your mouth close! LOL.
Lesson #5
During the “Art that Tells Stories” Art Movements lesson, the learners will translate their own stories into visual narratives, similar to how the first humans passed on their information through Cave Art. Plus, if a picture captures a thousand words, the learners will determine how many words Realist artworks capture.
Lesson #6
During the “Art that Defies Expectations” Art Movements lesson, the learners will reflect on their impressions of their surroundings much like the Impressionists, while taking inspiration from the Fauves and Cubists to reconstruct these same surroundings into dreams and basic forms.
